Rāma

Rama is one of the principal divine manifestations of Vishnu in Hinduism and the central figure of the Ramayana, one of the most influential epics of Sanskrit literature. Traditionally revered as the seventh avatar of Vishnu, Rama embodies the ideal king, devoted son, faithful husband, and defender of dharma, the moral and cosmic order. According to the Ramayana, Rama was born as the prince of Ayodhya. After being exiled for fourteen years, he journeyed through the forests accompanied by his wife Sita and his brother Lakshmana. During their exile, Sita was abducted by the demon king Ravana of Lanka. With the assistance of Hanuman and an army of vanaras, Rama defeated Ravana, rescued Sita, and restored justice and righteousness. Across the various Vaishnava traditions, Rama is honored as a complete divine manifestation and an enduring model of virtue. His life exemplifies integrity, compassion, self-discipline, unwavering commitment to duty, and righteous leadership. Within [Gaudiya Vaisnavism], Rama is worshiped as an eternal manifestation of the Supreme Personality of Godhead. Although this tradition places particular emphasis on devotion to [Kṛṣṇa], it fully recognizes Rama's transcendental nature and the enduring spiritual significance of His life and example. His story continues to inspire literature, performing arts, visual arts, and religious festivals throughout the Hindu world.
