Los Seis Gosvāmīs de Vṛndāvana

Biografía

The Six Gosvamis of Vrindavana (Rūpa Gosvāmī, Sanātana Gosvāmī, Jīva Gosvāmī, Raghunātha dāsa Gosvāmī, Gopāla Bhaṭṭa Gosvāmī and Raghunātha Bhaṭṭa Gosvāmī) were a group of ascetics, scholars, and spiritual guides in the 16th century. They were chosen by Chaitanya Mahaprabhu to lay the theological, historical, and physical foundations of Gaudiya Vaishnavism in Vrindavana. Before their arrival, Vrindavana was a forgotten forest. Acting under Chaitanya’s guidance, they performed three major tasks: locating the historical sites of Krishna’s pastimes, constructing the area's first major temples, and composing a vast body of Sanskrit literature that systematized Vaishnava theology. They lived lives of voluntary poverty, sleeping under trees and wearing simple cloth, while spending their time writing, debating, and chanting. Their books covers daily behavior, temple rituals, and the advanced aesthetics of divine love (madhurya-prema). The work of the Six Gosvamis transformed Vrindavana into a major pilgrimage center and established the intellectual framework that continues to guide the global Vaishnava community.
