Kṛṣṇa-bhakti
Krishna-bhakti refers to loving devotional service offered specifically to Krishna. In the Vaishnava traditions, particularly within Gaudiya Vaishnavism, it is regarded as both the highest spiritual path and the ultimate expression of the soul's eternal relationship with God. The term combines bhakti, meaning devotion or loving service, with Krishna, the supreme object of that devotion.
According to Krishna-bhakti theology, every living being possesses an inherent and eternal connection with Krishna. However, this relationship becomes obscured by material conditioning. The purpose of spiritual practice is therefore to revive that dormant connection through conscious acts of devotion performed without selfish motivation.
Core practices include hearing about Krishna, chanting His holy names, remembering His qualities and pastimes, offering prayers, engaging in devotional service, and associating with advanced devotees. Among these practices, the chanting of Krishna's names is especially emphasized as the most effective method for spiritual realization in the present age.
Foundational texts such as the Bhagavad-gita, Srimad-Bhagavatam, and Bhakti-rasamrita-sindhu describe Krishna-bhakti as a progressive path leading from disciplined devotional practice to deeper stages of spiritual emotion and ultimately divine love. In its mature form, devotion becomes spontaneous and fully centered on Krishna's pleasure.
Rather than being viewed merely as a religion or philosophy, Krishna-bhakti is understood as the eternal function of the soul and the highest perfection of spiritual life.
