Varṇāśrama-dharma
Varnashrama-dharma is a traditional Vedic framework that organizes human society according to social functions (varnas) and stages of life (ashramas).
The four varnas are brahmana, kshatriya, vaishya, and shudra, while the four ashramas are brahmacharya, grihastha, vanaprastha, and sannyasa. Together, they form a model intended to support social harmony and spiritual advancement.
Classical Hindu texts present varnashrama as a system designed to align individual duties with ethical and spiritual principles. Throughout history, the concept has been interpreted and applied in different ways by various traditions.
In Gaudiya Vaishnavism, varnashrama is respected as a social framework, yet pure devotion to Krishna is understood to transcend all social classifications.
