Harinama
Harinama, meaning "the name of Lord Hari" (a name for Krishna), is the core practice of chanting and meditating upon the holy names of God. In Vaishnava theology, particularly the Gaudiya school, Harinama is recognized as the supreme spiritual path and the most effective practice (yuga-dharma) for achieving spiritual liberation and divine love in the current age of Kali-yuga. Vaishnavism teaches that the holy name is non-different from God Himself, carrying all His transcendental potencies and mercy. It is practiced in two primary forms: japa, soft individual chanting using meditation beads, and sankirtan, congregationally singing the names aloud with musical instruments. Chaitanya Mahaprabhu widely popularized the public chanting of Harinama, centered on the Maha-Mantra. He taught that this practice is universal, transcending all barriers of social status, race, or learning. It acts as a powerful cleansing agent for the consciousness, awakening the soul's innate love for the Divine. Practitioners believe that chanting with a sincere heart cleanses the mind of material desires and prepares the soul for its eternal home.
