Sri Radha-Krishna

Sri Radha-Krishna denotes the supreme combined form of the Divine in Gaudiya Vaishnavism. Within this theological framework, Krishna represents the original personal form of the Supreme Absolute (Svayam Bhagavan), while Radha is His internal pleasure potency (hladini-sakti), embodying the pinnacle of divine love (mahabhava). Rather than a mundane mythological couple, they are understood as the dual manifestation of the single Absolute Truth. Philosophically, this relationship is explained through the lens of acintya-bhedabheda, the doctrine of inconceivable simultaneous oneness and difference. Radha and Krishna are one entity split into two forms eternally to taste the transcendental exchange of love (prema-rasa). In Vaishnava practice, Radha holds a position of supreme importance as the emblem of pure devotion. Devotees do not seek to occupy her position but aspire to serve the divine couple in a subordinate role under the guidance of Radha’s companions, the gopis. This spiritual dynamic underpins the goal of Gaudiya Vaishnava bhakti, where devotion is directed toward satisfying the desires of Sri Radha-Krishna in the transcendental realm of Vrindavana.
