Vrindavana

Vrindavana is a sacred town and forest region in northern India where, according to scripture, Krishna performed His childhood pastimes five thousand years ago. In Gaudiya Vaishnava theology, Vrindavana exists in two dimensions: as a physical pilgrimage site on Earth and as the eternal, unmanifest spiritual realm of Goloka Vrindavana in the absolute plane. During the medieval period, the geographical Vrindavana had fallen into obscurity. Chaitanya Mahaprabhu dispatched the Six Gosvamis to excavate the holy places mentioned in the Srimad-Bhagavatam and construct grand temples. Vrindavana is regarded as the home of spontaneous love (prema), where God is loved and served in relationships of friendship, parental affection, and conjugal sweetness, free from the distance of awe and majesty. For Vaishnava practitioner, residing in Vrindavana or visiting it on pilgrimage (parikrama) is a core spiritual practice. This helps align the mind with the eternal pastimes of Sri Radha-Krishna, making Vrindavana the spiritual heart of the Gaudiya Vaishnava universe.
