Paraśurāma

Parasurama (literally "Rama with the axe") is the sixth avatar of Lord Vishnu in the classical Dashavatara list, appearing as a brahminical warrior endowed with extraordinary strength. His life is narrated in the Ninth Canto of the Srimad-Bhagavatam and in the Mahabharata. Parasurama descended at a time when the ruling and warrior class (kshatriya) had become corrupt, tyrannical, and abusive, neglecting their Vedic duties and oppressing citizens and brahmanas. He received a divine axe from Lord Shiva after performing severe austerities. To restore order and justice, Parasurama undertook a massive campaign in which He eliminated the corrupt kings of the Earth, repeating this cycle twenty-one times until the ruling class was completely purified. In Vaishnava theology, Parasurama represents divine anger directed against injustice and the transgression of the ethical principles of dharma. Although His method of action was violent and unusual for a brahmana, His ultimate purpose was to restore social and spiritual balance. For devotees, Parasurama is an example of absolute obedience and a reminder that physical force and power must be subordinated to divine and moral laws.
