Prayojana
Prayojana is the third and final pillar of the threefold system of spiritual knowledge in Gaudiya Vaishnavism, translating as "the goal" or "the supreme purpose." While sambandha teaches the soul's relationship with God and abhidheya describes the devotional process for re-establishing that relationship, prayojana defines the ultimate destination toward which all spiritual practice is directed: prema, pure, ecstatic, and unconditional love for Krishna. This divine love is not a mundane emotion or a state of psychological well-being; it is the highest spiritual reality, in which the devotee experiences continuous intimacy with the Supreme, free from any trace of selfishness or material desire. In Gaudiya theology, the prayojana reaches its highest expression in madhurya-rasa, the conjugal love of the gopis of Vrindavana, and supremely in the mahabhava of Radha. Chaitanya Mahaprabhu appeared in this world specifically to taste this dimension of divine love and to distribute it freely. The prayojana is not an abstract concept, but the vital impulse that gives meaning to every spiritual effort of the practitioner, infusing purpose and direction into the entire path of devotion.
