Navadvīpa-dhāma parikramā

Navadvīpa-dhāma parikramā

Navadvīpa-dhāma parikramā is the devotional pilgrimage around the nine islands of Navadvīpa, the abode of Śrī Caitanya Mahāprabhu. The route honors Antardvīpa, Sīmantadvīpa, Godrumadvīpa, Madhyadvīpa, Koladvīpa, Ṛtudvīpa, Jahnudvīpa, Modadrumadvīpa, and Rudradvīpa, traditionally associated with the nine practices of navadhā-bhakti. Walking through these places enables pilgrims to hear their pastimes, remember Gaura, and serve among the Vaiṣṇavas. Parikramā is neither religious hiking nor a race to accumulate merit. Its center is hari-kathā, kīrtana, chanting the mahā-mantra, and service toward the dhāma and its residents. A pilgrim walks humbly, protects the environment, avoids criticism, and tolerates discomfort without losing remembrance. Each island teaches a form of bhakti, so geography becomes living instruction and the outward journey reflects an inward movement from selfishness toward surrender. The Gauḍīya Vaiṣṇava tradition teaches that Navadvīpa and Vṛndāvana are spiritually one abode manifested in different moods. In Vṛndāvana, Kṛṣṇa relishes intimate relationships; in Navadvīpa He distributes them as Mahāprabhu through nāma-saṅkīrtana. Under the guru, parikramā helps the jīva seek entrance through mercy rather than claim it as a right. Those unable to travel may participate through hearing, remembrance, and supporting service. Its genuine fruit is stronger attachment to the holy name, respect for devotees, and desire to share Kṛṣṇa’s prema.
